The required text for the Unit:

  • Workbook: BSBSTR501 – Establish innovative work environments
  • A range of resources such as Lesson plan, training and delivery plan, session plan, teaching notes, reading resources and presentation slides (PPT slides) will be used for training and assessment.
  • CAC classrooms have computers with internet connection and networked printers. The students will receive detailed instructions from trainers.
  • The trainer or assessor is required to checkwww.training.gov.au : in order to access current version of unit of competency and assessment criteria.
  • A soft copy of Training and Assessment Strategy (TAS) and Unit Assessment Procedure and Tools (UAP &T) is available on the Network Drive (Q drive Accessible only to the trainer through secure login).  Trainer may develop and use additional training resources in consultation with the Academic Department.
  • Trainer will ensure that the student has access to a simulated environment and to office equipment and resources (e.g. workplace documents- minutes, agenda etc where appropriate).
  • Trainermust maintain a hardcopy folder (along with electronic files on Moodle under Trainer’s name) to record all the teaching and assessment resources used for the relevant teaching period.

There are total 4 assessment activities for the unit. The assessment procedures, instructions, marking criteria and assessment feedback will be explained to the students before administering the individual assessment.

  •  INSTRUCTION TO ASSESSOR
  • The purpose and context of the assessment is identified and explained to the student.
  • The assessment conditions are clearly outlined before administering the relevant assessment.
  • The student has access to an actual workplace or simulated environment.
  • The student has access to office equipment and relevant resources whilst doing the assessment.
  • The exemplars and samples from the workplaces are available and discussed where possible to the students before administering the assessment.
  • The criteria of marking should be explained to the students.
  • The answers in the marking criteria or model solutions are prepared for assessors to use as a guide to evaluate the student’s answers and are to be used as an indicative only. The actual answers of students may vary and they have to be assessed based on relevancy.
  • Where applicable, the special needs of the candidates including Literacy, Language and Numeracy, are to be taken care of by appropriate adjustment on the assessment process and assessment tools.
  • The students are advised of the assessment outcome, feedback and appeal process.
  • The marking of assessment is suitably modified if the moderation process reveals any inconsistencies.

Group work & Presentation on a workplace scenario

Select an organization from internet or consider the company/organization where you currently work or know very well. Suppose the organization has been facing business challenges in recent times. Some of issues are loss of market share,staff turnover, customer’s complaints and entry of new competitors. CEO of the organization is considering a central strategy to maintain the company’s position in the market. She strongly believes ‘innovation and continuous improvement in quality and service’ is the only option which can bring the organization back on track.

Now, she advises you (consider you work in that organization) to form a team and prepare a presentation on ‘Innovation and sustainability’. It has been decided that you and your team will present this in the board meeting which is coming up in two weeks time. The CEO has also requested you to prepare a brief written report in MS word format to support your presentation.

Now form a team (THREE) of students and prepare the presentation on the following areas:

Part A 

  1. Brief introductionand the current situation of the organization.
    1. How could the managers actively encourage a culture of continuous improvement and sustainability within the organization?

  1. How can the organizational change process ensure the objectives, time-frames and communication plans are ready?

  2. How could you evaluate the existing systems and processes?
  3. Costs and benefits of innovation and improvements are identified and communicated to the all parties (including the benefits of quality).

Instructions for Presentation:

  • The students must be dressed in formal attire on the day of presentation.
  • The students should prepare PowerPoint Slides and use overhead projector whilst making the presentation
  • The students must bring their own removable disk (USB) to transfer the Slides for OHP projector’s use.
  • The presentation work must be shared by all the three group members (they may cover each of the three key topics- A,  B and C)
  • Each member should not talk for more than 5-7 minutes (15 minutes for group).

Instructions for Evidence submission:

  1. Each member of the group should submit print outs of PowerPoint slides.
  2. The presentation needs to be the class audience which will be observed by the trainer and feedback sheet  will be recorded for each student (to be signed by both trainer and student)
  3. Assessment Coversheet must be attached with the submission.

Welcome to Choice Academic College. This document is intended for providing students with the essential information regarding Units of competency you are enrolled in current teaching period. Before you commence your studies in relevant teaching period, it is your responsibility to be familiarize yourself with College procedures including being aware of the requirements for this unit and the specific details as required by the College.

You will be expected to attend all the sessions and to actively participate in learning activities associated with this unit.As part of immigration compliance, the student visa holders are required to maintain at least 80% attendance for the teaching session. (If there are any students who miss a class, for any reason, may be required to satisfactorily complete an additional assignment or re-assessment to ensure they have caught up on missed content and are not disadvantaged in their learning outcomes. Additional fees may be payable for these services).

The unit will be taught over the 9 weeks period. Refer to College website for Teaching Period details.

  • Timetables

The class timetable is published in the Notice Board in Level 1 and Level 2 of Parramatta Campus. You can also collect individualized timetable from the Student Contact Officer. The scheduled contact hours will be 16 hours of class attendance and 4 hours of online learning via MyCACmoodle portal. The class preference or section choice may be subject to availability and students must attend the allocated classes.

  1. Internet access

Most CAC classrooms have computers with internet connection. During the face to face teaching students must not use computers or internet unless instructed by the trainer. Certain sites may be blocked by the administrator during the class hours. The College also has free Wi-Fi access for students use.

  1. Student Workbook

The College will provide you with a Student Workbook covering the units of competencies covered in the relevant teaching period. The cost of workbook is covered by materials fee which is shown in your invoice. You must ensure you pay your fees and collect your workbook from the SCO office on time. The activities in Workbook are required to be duly completed and submitted to trainer for signed off at the end of the teaching period.

  1. Stationeries

It is essential for students to come with a notebook, a pen, and a USB stick as minimum stationeries for the class participation. Additional stationeries may be required for particular units and your teacher will provide the details.

  1. Learning resources

Copies of class notes, lecture slides, and other resources are available on your local intranet –PCMS SharePoint.

  1. MyCAC portal (online platform)

CAC uses MyCAC portal, a moodle based online learning portal to access the online learning resources-https://moodle.CAC.edu.au/. E-Learning is an essential component of participation and the student must access MyCAC portal and complete the reading and online tasks.Your attendance and course progression may be affected if you do not log on and complete online reading tasks week by week in each compulsory teaching period.

  1. CAC App

The College has an application for Smartphone’s known as CAC App which will contain useful features for communication between the students and College. The students are strongly encouraged to download it from Google Play Store for Android phones and Apple Store for iPhone.

  1. Assignment Cover Sheets

Unless specifically advised otherwise, all assignments must be accompanied by a signed official cover sheet and handed in to the teacher concerned.

  1. Plagiarism/Collusion

Collusion includes copying another person’s work, or allowing your work to be copied by someone else. In presenting your work for assessment you must show the assessor that you have performed research by yourself, and the only way you can do this is to ‘cite’ or refer to your source material throughout your work.

Plagiarism includes copying any published work without proper referencing and downloading material from the internet and passing it off as your own without adequate referencing.

Any cases of plagiarism and collusion are an academic misconduct and will be dealt with by with the College Academic integritypolicies and procedures.

  1. Written Exam

Some Units of Competencies may have written exam as an assessment component. These exams may be conducted on a restricted and closed book environment. It is your responsibility to prepare adequately for the exam. Detailed exam advice will be provided by your trainer.

  1. Assignment Feedback

The trainers will mark the assignment submitted by students on a regular basis and will share the feedback to individual students. If the assignment is not satisfactorily completed, the trainer may return your work and allow student one more attempt. Such resubmission will not incur financial penalty if submitted within the revised due date. Student should regularly enquire about the assignment feedback with their trainers.

  • Special Consideration

Special consideration in respect of assessment may be granted to a student where it is demonstrated that they have experienced disadvantage due to circumstances beyond their control. The Student Contact Officer will provide additional guidance on this matter.

  • Variation of Deadlines

The assessments will be due date. Please contact your trainer for variations on deadlines of assessment submissions. For extensions request due to medical reasons, the copies of medical certificates need to be presented to SCO.

  • Final Results

The final results for the Term will generally be announced after one week of the completion of the Term. The personalized results will be emailed to Students once released.

  • Appeals

Students can appeal their results of any or all of the assessment items usually within 30 days of the conclusion of the relevant term. Late appeals will not be accepted. Please refer to the Induction Booklet or student handbook for further information.

  • Course Progress requirements

The College will notify students from time to time about student’s obligation to satisfactory compliance with the Course Progression rules. The general rule is you must obtain a pass or “competent” grade in minimum of 50% of enrolled Units in relevant term. The College has the power to warn, restrict, and suspend students who demonstrate unsatisfactory progress. Please refer to Course Progress Policy available on the intranet.

  • Grading

As a registered training organization, Choice Academic College follows the Competency based grading. The students will be awarded with a letter grade “S” (satisfactory) for assessment item that meets the expected performance standard. You will only receive “C” (Competent) grade for the overall Unit if ALL of assessment items of the given Unit are marked as “S” satisfactory. If any of your assessment attempts is not up to the expected standard, you may receive a NS not satisfactory on that item which will result in NYC (Not Yet Competent) for the overall Unit. In other words, the letter grading “C” means you satisfied the unit requirements and passed the Unit. The letter grading “NYC” means you have not fulfilled the course requirements and are to be re-assessed on the some or all performance criteria of the unit.

  • Reassessment/re-sits

If you have obtained a NS- not satisfactory or NYC-not yet competent (fail grade) and your appeal is unsuccessful, you may be required to repeat the term or apply for the re-sit/reassessment. The re-sit fee is $200 per Unit and you need to contact Student Contact Officer for reassessment procedures.

  • Learning task and Assessment:
