  Instruction to Students: Demonstrate the following performance skills in Task 1 and 2 under the observation of workplace assessor.If you are deemed not yet competent on your 1st attempt you will be given feedback on your performance and a new time for a 2nd attempt assessment will be organised.Dependent on your performance feedback you may be requested to attend additional training prior to your 2nd attempt.If you are deemed not yet competent after your 2nd attempt you will be provided with additional research skills training until your assessor feels you are ready for your 3rd attempt assessment. Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions. Where simulation is used the following conditions must have been met for this unit: use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including: health promotion resourceshealth data, including epidemiological datamodelling of industry operating conditions

The student will need to develop a health promotion plan for a Youth issue by:

  • Identifying key issues in preventative health care using social research methods and epidemiological data to analyse health trends
  • Working within the educational framework of health promotion interpreting data and identified key preventative health issues and target audiences
  • developing and applying a range of preventative health strategies to plan appropriate health promotion within the community

*Your trainer and assessor will provide you with examples of health promotional activities and community programs, campaigns and educational resources

In the context of the role of a Community support worker your organisation has been granted $40,000 AUD dollars as a one-off grant to develop a plan for a health promotion program for an issue affecting the Youth (13 – 19 years) in your local community.

Consider your local community and write the following:

1. Undertake a health situation analysis

  1. List common issues associated with Youth in the area.
  • List the knowledge level, attitude and practices related to these common problems in the area.
  • List local health institutions and resources which are currently involved in health-related programs for this selected group.
  • List relevant epidemiological and statistical data using social methods of research to analyse health trends

2. List and prioritise the health problems associated with targeted youth group (13 – 19years).

  1. List of common health problems in the selected group
  • Prioritisation of these problems

3. Consider any one of the first three health problems in the youth group which you have prioritised and list actions which would be required to solve the identified health problem in that group.

  1. Name of the health problems and actions which would be required to solve this problem.
  • Out of the actions list what are the actions which fall under the category of health promotion.

4. Define your goals that you would be able to achieve under the health promotion category in the next 6 months.

5. Identify Objectives to be performed for health promotion in the district for achieving the targets you have put for 6 months.

6. List and match human resources, budget, institutions etc and other resources which are available for carrying out the activities related to health promotion in the community for 6 months with identified goals.

7. Draw detailed implementation plan on health promotion program by writing:

  1. Objectives which would be achieved in the year.
  • Timeframe–specify the activities/tasks and time required for each of these tasks and any milestones.
  • Outputs in terms of number of health promotion activities/services.

8. Develop a monitoring plan and built in feedback indicators for the health promotion program among identified youth group in the community.

  1. Who will monitor?
  • What health promotion activities/services will be monitored/supervised?
  • How will these be monitored based on reporting mechanism or filed visits?
  • What would be monitoring indicators?
  • How interpretation of indicators will be made and corrective action taken?

9. How the final evaluation would be carried out, who would carry out this evaluation and how?
