In groups of 3 or 4, you will develop an information security report for an organisation. The security report will substantiate information network security and communication security policy requirements for a fictional small to medium business.

For the presentation-

Assuming you must present your report to Board members of the Barangaroo Institute of Technology. You must prepare and submit any slides or graphics at the same time as your report.

Your presentation will take place in class at an allocated time during the lecture.

Business Scenario

Barangaroo Institute of Technology (BIT) is a newly established higher education provider in Sydney. BIT has three campuses Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney. Currently, BIT has about 9,500 enrolled students (both domestic students and international students) and about 600

staff members. BIT offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in areas of Information Technology, Engineering, Accounting, Business Analytics, Project Management, etc.

BIT maintains several information systems to support its operation, as listed below:

  • Student Management System (SMS) to manage student records
  • E-learning platform (Moodle) to support teaching and learning
  • IT service desk ticketing system to provide IT support to staff and students
  • Time-table management system to manage lecture/tutorial scheduling
  • Active directory service to support single sign on (SSO) on BIT network
  • Office 365 to provide email service to staff and students
  • Staff portal to provide services to staff (e.g., software download, HR resources, training, etc.)
  • Asset management system (AMS) to manage institute property (e.g., software, hardware, etc.)
  • Xero application to manage finance services (e.g., procurement, invoice, payroll, etc.)
  • MySQL database system

As a security expert, you have been hired to develop a security policy plan for Barangaroo Institute of Technology. Your security report (no more than 2,500 words) should include a discussion of (but not limited to) the following:

  • Executive summary (excluded from the word count)
  • Objective and scope
  • Justify the need for information security in terms of cost benefit
